Most Asian stocks rose, following three weeks of declines, as Tokyo shares gained amid better-than-estimated economic growth while investors continued to gauge the impact of Donald Trumps policies on financial markets.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index traded little changed at 135.33 as of 9:21 a.m. in Tokyo, with more than two shares climbing for each that declined. The Topix index advanced 0.9 percent after data showed Japans economy expanded more than forecast in the three months through September. Australias S&P/ASX 200 Index slipped 0.8 percent and South Koreas Kospi index fell 0.1 percent.

Stock markets in Asia were whipsawed in the aftermath of Trumps shock victory last week. After regional equities initially tumbled on news Trump had won, they briefly recovered on signs he will boost fiscal spending. Trumps economic adviser, Anthony Scaramucci, repeated a pledge to spend $1 trillion on infrastructure in a Financial Times comment piece, while sounding a softer note on trade than Trump had declared on the campaign trail, suggesting the president-elect is open to negotiations before slapping barriers on imports.

While the value of equities worldwide swelled by more than $1 trillion last week amid optimism a Trump presidency will boost U.S. growth, the MSCI Emerging Markets Index posted its biggest weekly loss since May as concern grew that rising U.S. interest rates and quicker inflation may sap appetite for developing-nation assets. Theres now an 84 percent chance the Federal Reserve will lift rates next month, Fed Funds futures show.

Japans Topix gained as a report showed gross domestic product expanded by an annualized 2.2 percent in the third quarter, faster than economists estimates for 0.8 percent growth, as a rebound in exports compensated for weak spending by consumers and companies.

New Zealands S&P/NZX 50 Index added 0.5 percent, with construction company Fletcher Building Ltd. pacing gains, after an earthquake caused widespread damage and killed two people. Schools and offices in Wellington are closed Monday as buildings are assessed for stability. Tower Ltd., an insurer, slumped 7.1 percent.

Futures on the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong dropped 1.1 percent in most recent trading, with contracts on the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index sliding 1.4 percent. Futures on the FTSE China A50 Index were down 0.3 percent ahead of data on Chinas industrial output and retail sales.
